WHO ARE WE?

Boy Scout Troop 1707 is made up of 70 registered youth, ages 10 ½ to 18, and 40 active adults.  The Smith Middle School PTO sponsors the troop.  Troop 1707 has served Troy, Michigan and neighboring communities for thirty-eight years.  Membership in the troop is representative of white, Native American, African American, Asian, physically disabled, gifted, and special learning needs.  We are a very diversified organization with traditional family units, single parents, youth, men, women, and families from diverse economic and religious backgrounds.  We have participation of Scouts and/or adults from the communities of Troy, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, Madison Heights, Warren, Rochester Hills, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Ferndale, Auburn Hills and Mt. Clemens.   Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate.

Boy Scout Troop 1707 is extremely interested in upholding the basic aims of the Boy Scouts of America.  These aims are to:  build character, foster citizenship, and develop fitness.  We encourage the creative process and are constantly looking for new ways to present the Scouting program to our Scouts and adults.  We use the camping venue to teach the traditional Scouting skills of fire building, cooking, map reading, hiking, camping, etc.  The true value of the program, however, lies in the personal development it fosters. The Scouting program develops and nurtures leadership, teamwork, decision-making, creative process, good citizenship values, and personal respect.
org profile 3Over our thirty-eight years, 116 Scouts have received the Eagle Badge, Boy Scouting's highest honor.  We conduct service projects and other activities, which support the community and foster citizenship.  Troop 1707 is also proud of its sixteen Scouts and adults who have received BSA Life Saving and Meritorious Action Awards.
Our program includes ten to fourteen weekend campouts, a weeklong summer camp program, Troop leader training weekends, and various one-day excursions.  Come join the excitement!
